SN 2011fq (A.R. 00 41 51.40, Dec. +32 59 23 .3) scoperta il 22 agosto 2011 nella galassia UGC 442 (offset 4W 5S), magnitudine 17.9, tipo II plateau.

SN scoperta da Fabrizio Ciabattari ed E. Mazzoni con il telescopio Newton da 50cm dell'Osservatorio di Monte Agliale (Lucca).

UGC 442 è una galassia Sc nella costellazione di Andromeda, distante 69 Mpc, magnitudine 15.4.

SUPERNOVA 2011fq IN UGC 442 = PSN J00415140+3259234
F. Ciabattari, E. Mazzoni, and M. Rossi, Borgo a Mozzano, Italy, report
their discovery of an apparent supernova on unfiltered CCD images obtained on
Aug. 22.12 UT (when it was at mag 17.9; limiting mag 19.1) and on Aug. 26.01
(at mag 17.8; limiting mag 19.5) with a 0.5-m Newtonian telescope in the
course of the Italian Supernovae Search Project. The new object is located
at R.A. = 0h41m51s.40, Decl. = +32d59'23".4 (equinox 2000.0; astrometry with
respect to UCAC-2 stars), which is 4" west and 5" south of the center of the
galaxy UGC 442 = PGC 2504. Nothing is visible at this position on the
digitized plates of the Palomar Sky Survey from 1989 Sept. 30 (F plate;
limiting magnitude 20.3) and 1993 Sept. 16 (J plate; limiting mag 20.3) or on
their own images from Sept. 2010 (limiting magnitude 18.8). This variable was
designated PSN J00415140+3259234 when it was posted on the Central Bureau's
TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2011fq based on the spectroscopic

L. Magill, Queen's University, Belfast, and Isaac Newton Group; R. Kotak
and S. Smartt, Queen's University, Belfast; and A. Pastorello, Osservatorio
Astronomico di Padova, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, report that an
optical spectrogram (range 330-900 nm) of PSN J00415140+3259234 = SN 2011fq
was obtained at the William Herschel Telescope (+ ISIS spectrograph) by K.
Maguire on Sept. 3.08 UT. The spectrum displays a prominent H_alpha component,
with a distinct P-Cyg profile. The expansion velocity of H_alpha, as
estimated from the blue edge of the absorption trough of this line, is about
9000 km/s, after correcting for the recession velocity of UGC 442 (4430 km/s,
from Falco et al. 1998, The Updated Zwicky Catalogue; via the NED website).
The Ca II near-infrared triplet is also present with a P-Cyg profile, as well
as Na I D and Fe II lines. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova
spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry
2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) suggests a normal type-II-plateau supernova, similar to
SN 2004et at an epoch of about 35 days post-maximum (Sahu et al. 2006, MNRAS
372, 1315).
