The Asiago Transient Classification Program (Tomasella et al. 2014, AN, 335, 841) reports the spectroscopic observation of PSN J14002117+3854517 in NGC 5406. The observation was performed with the Asiago 1.82m Copernico Telescope (+AFOSC; range 340-820 nm; resolution 1.4 nm), equipped with the CCD Andor IKON L936.

Name | Date (UT) | z | Type | Phase |
PSN J14002117+3854517 | 20150219.07 | 0.01735 | SN II | ~ 2 weeks |

The spectrum shows a relatively blue continuum, dominated by the Balmer lines with P-Cygni profiles typical of type II SNe about two weeks after explosion. From the H-alpha minimum an expansion velocity of about 5600 km/s is deduced, once the host galaxy redshift has been taken into account (z=0.01735, RC3, via NED)

Classification was done with GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A&A, 488, 383) and SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024). The Asiago classification spectra are posted at the website http://sngroup.oapd.inaf.it.
