Dimai (Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy) of an apparent supernova (mag about 16.8) on two unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag 18.0) taken on Oct. 30.774 UT taken with the 0.28-m telescope of the Col Drusci Observatory in the course of the Italian Supernovae Search Project. The new object is located at R.A. = 21h45m09s.63, Decl. = +10d06'12".6 (equinox 2000.0), which is 13" west and 9" north of the nucleus of the presumed host galaxy. No stellar source is visible at this position on Palomar Sky Survey infrared, red, and blue plates (1994 July 3, F plate; 1990 Sept. 13, J plate; 1990 July 20, N plate; limiting mag 19.5). The variable was designated PSN J21450963+1006126 when it was posted at the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2012gf based on the spectroscopic confirmation reported below. L. Tomasella, S. Benetti, E. Cappellaro, P. Ochner, A. Pastorello, and M. Turatto, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, report that optical spectroscopy (range 340-820 nm; resolution 1.3 nm), obtained on Nov. 6.82 UT with the Asiago 1.82-m Copernico Telescope (+ AFOSC) by the Service Telescope Operating Team, shows that PSN J21450963+1006126 = SN 2012gf is a type-II supernova about ten days after the explosion at assumed redshift z = 0.027536 (Falco et al. 1999, PASP 111, 438; via the NED database), similar to SN 1999em (Baron et al. 2000, Ap.J. 545, 444; Elmhamdi et al. 2003, MNRAS 338, 939).
